COMPREHENSIVE CARDIAC CARE

At Heart Care by RK, I am dedicated to providing you with expert, personalised cardiac care tailored to your unique needs. Whether you’re seeking a consultation for a specific concern or need ongoing treatment for a heart condition, I am here to guide you every step of the way. My services are designed to offer quick access to world-class care, ensuring that you receive the attention and treatment you deserve without delay.

Symptoms I specialise in, and investigate to achieve a diagnosis

I specialise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of heart conditions. Below are some common conditions and the investigations I offer:

  • Chest Pain: I assess and investigate the underlying causes of chest pain, such as angina or coronary artery disease.
  • Palpitations: I investigate irregular heartbeats using tools like Holter monitors and ILR.
  • Shortness of Breath: This could be due to heart failure or valve issues, which I evaluate using echo and other imaging techniques.
  • Aortic Stenosis & Mitral Regurgitation: Conditions affecting the heart valves, which I assess with advanced imaging.
  • Atrial Fibrillation: I provide treatment options for this common arrhythmia, including cardioversion.
  • Ankle Swelling: Often related to heart conditions like heart failure, which I investigate thoroughly.

Important Note: If you experience any of these symptoms or have concerns about your heart health, I am here to help with the latest and most effective diagnostic tools and treatments.

Cardiovascular Risk Screening

Owing to my strong research background in risk stratification, I have access to the latest and best tools to help understand your risk of future cardiovascular events.

  1. I can offer individuals who are asymptomatic (but wanting to learn their risk), the CaRi-Heart analysis. This uses images of your heart arteries, including the inflammation around them (which is unique to this test only), your risk factors, and artificial intelligence to calculate your tailored risk of a heart attack. This is superior to images of the heart arteries alone (obtained using a CT coronary angiogram), and other validated tools, such as the QRISK3 calculator. To learn more, please click on the link below.
  2. I can offer individuals blood tests, so you can learn your cholesterol level, (including Lp(a) which is not checked by your GP) and confirm your diabetic status early, so preventative measures can be adopted to improve future cardiovascular risk.
  3. I can offer individuals high blood pressure screening using a 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor. Learning your blood pressure is imperative, as it is the number one risk factor for stroke, atrial fibrillation and heart attacks. Individuals do not exhibit symptoms when their blood pressure is elevated, and therefore undergoing regular screening is important. At the same time, I also perform a urine test, to assess whether high blood pressure has caused kidney damage.
  4. I can offer individuals an ECG. This simple test records the electrical activity of the heart and can help identify arrhythmias, and heart muscle disorders.
  5. I can offer individuals an echocardiogram.  This test uses ultrasound to allow us to visualise all 4 chambers of the heart and their valves. From this we can determine the heart's structure and function.
  6. In cases where the echocardiogram does not suffice, I can offer individuals a cardiac MRI, which takes a deeper dive into the heart muscle, and helps diagnose genetic cardiomyopathies (disorders of the heart muscle).
  7. I can offer individuals holter monitors. These record the heart's electrical activity over a prolonged period of time, whilst you continue your daily activities, to learn if you have any silent arrhythmias.

If you are interested in other tests not described above, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I offer other tests not listed above.

Procedures I Perform

As a specialist in both general and interventional cardiology, I offer a range of advanced procedures:

  • Invasive Angiography: A detailed imaging technique to examine your heart’s blood vessels.
  • Pressure Wire Studies: To assess the severity of any coronary artery blockages.
  • Angioplasty/Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): A minimally invasive procedure to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries.
  • Direct Current Cardioversion: To restore normal heart rhythm in cases of atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias.
  • ILR Insertion: A minimally invasive procedure to monitor heart rhythm over a prolonged period.
